Meet Maestra Martha.

Martha I. Wallace, the founder, and director of Mi Escuelita Montessori was born and raised in Mexico City. She is a native Spanish speaker who moved to the United States in 1995. She has been in Bozeman with her husband and three children since 2005.

Martha’s passion for teaching has taken her on several alternative paths in education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Literature from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She then completed her Montessori Certificate from the Pan American Montessori Society, a program accredited by The Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE), an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Later, she studied Psychopedagogy at the Mayab Anáhuac University in Merida, México, and received a certification. Most recently, she earned a Master’s degree in Teaching from Valley City State University in North Dakota.

Martha first became enamored with the Montessori Method when her then two-year-old daughter attended a Montessori School in Mexico. Since becoming a certified Montessori teacher for ages 2.5 to 6 years of age, she has taught in Montessori schools in México, Montana, and in Texas. She is also certified as a Spanish K-12 public school teacher in Montana. She has worked as a Spanish teacher for grades 7–12 in Montana and previously homeschooled her own children for several years.

Martha enjoys doing outdoor activities with her family and friends such as biking, canoeing, hiking, camping, paddle boarding, and gardening. She also enjoys cooking for her family and friends. She likes oil painting, music and dancing, as well as writing poetry and prose. One of her dreams is to write stories (cuentos) for children.

  • Thank you for your interest in Mi Escuelita Montessori. My mission as the children’s guide (teacher) is to touch their imagination through their five senses to help them open themselves up for life.
